As far as towns go, we think you might enjoy Stresa, which is where all events and activities will take place. Neighboring towns like Baveno, Lesa, Meina, and Arona (Miri’s hometown) are also just a 10 - 20 min drive away.

Getting there

Flying

We recommend flying into Milan Malpensa (MXP) since it’s the closest airport to Stresa. If you plan to visit Milan before/after, you could opt for Milan Linate (LIN), which is close to the city center. Here’s a breakdown of the distance and travel options from each airport to Stresa.

By car: 45 min ~ 1 h
By bus: ~ 1 h 10 min | €18 - €20
By train: 1 h 10 min ~ 1 h 45 min (1-2 changes, depending on the route) | €10 - €20

Linate

By car: 1 h 15 min ~ 2h (depends on traffic out of Milan)
By public transport: ~ 2 h (metro within Milan + train)

From Geneva

You can take a train from either Cornavin or Geneva airport all the way to Stresa (1-2 changes). The trip takes roughly 4 h and you get views of both Lac Léman and Lago Maggiore along the way. #whoselakeisbetter

Getting around

Stresa is a “major” train stop on the railway that runs along the length of Lake Maggiore (from Milan to Domodossola in the Alps), so you can hop on and head North or South with relative ease. That said, getting around is definitely easier by car, especially if you plan to explore the area during your stay. If you don’t want to rent a car, then you might have to rely on taxis (FYI there are no Ubers in the area).
